More details will be updated on the blog soon, but for now some issues we have to let you guys know.

This year, DSD have decided to not allow overnight camps and we need to leave campus before 11pm everyday. Therefore, campers are allowed to go home and expected to come back the next day. CCA point will be forfeited if campers do not turn up the next day, or come late for more than 2hours without a valid reason. I’m sorry, but we have to be strict on this to ensure the camp will go on smoothly!

But no worries, we will do our best to make this a memorable camp for everyone! Join our camp and get to know new friends with similar interests! We will be waiting! ^O^

*CCA points included.

Like i have said above, more details will be updated on this blog soon! We will let you know when and where to report to, and what you need to bring and such!

If there are any other queries, please feel free to leave a comment here.

SP Theatre Compass brings to you A Thousand Cranes‏

Hello everyone! This is an unofficial event, but Theatre Compass is staging a play named [A Thousand Cranes]. If anyone is interested, here are the details:

A Thousand Cranes is a heart-warming story of Sadako Sasaki’s battle with leukemia and her hope for life as she attempts to fold a thousand cranes.

Theatre Compass takes the dramatization of the well-known 20th century children’s story ‘Sadako and the Thousand Cranes’ by Eleanor Coerr and re-imagines it.

The real-life Sadako Sasaki survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima but succumbed to leukemia at the tender age of 13. Sadako attempted to fold a thousand paper cranes before her death so that, in turn, she could receive the wish of life. She only managed till 644.

But what if the story doesn’t end at crane #644?

‘A Thousand Cranes’ is a fantastical re-telling of Sadako’s story, laced with humour and lots of heart, borrowing from pop culture, physical theatre and improvisations.

Date/Timing: 8 – 10 May at 8 pm, and 11 May at 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm.
Location: Blackbox (T642).
Tickets are priced at: $15.

It is directed by industry professional Rodney Oliverio starring and produced by our very own SP students and recent graduates.

You can order your ticket at our official website (http://a-thousandcranes.tumblr.com) under ‘Ticketing’. Collection can be done at our booth at FC6 on 4th May (Friday) or at door. As we have limited tickets per show, do place your orders as soon as possible. Alternatively, you may place them with Bridget directly (text or in person).

*CCA points are not given.

Experience Chado and Yukata!

Hi guys! Do you know of Chado?

Chado, or the Way of Tea, is the traditional Tea Ceremony in Japan. Tea was originally brought to Japan by Buddhist monks returning from pilgrimages to China. The art of serving was then refined into the many ways seen today. There are many methods, such as

Bonryaku-temae : Serving tea from a tray

Ryurei : Serving tea from a seated table

Chabako-temae : Serving tea from a special box-tray

The principle behind it is still the Zen, the finding of peace and the communication of two hearts and souls over a simple bowl of tea.

Come on down and experience what it is like to be a guest at a tea ceremony, and enjoy delicious treats while drinking tea! Also learn some history behind Chado.

No, Chado is not like this.

Yukata is the traditional summer wear in Japan.Traditionally worn to festivals (think Natsumatsuri) and other events, it literally means “Bath wear” as it is also worn at home.

A thin garment made of cotton or synthethic fabric, it is wrapped around, left over right, and fastened with a koshi-himo, or cloth sash. The Obi, or sash, is a thick sash with colorful designs. The female yukata and Obi are traditionally more colorful than their male counterparts. Learn how to put on the yukata and tie the Obi and get to wear them!

Sessions:

Dates : 16th and 17th May (Wednesday and Thursday)

11am – 1pm (Chado)  , 3pm – 5pm (Yukata)
